New Siding and Windows for Fall Remodels

This Fall season is a good time to replace siding and upgrade your windows at the same time. Before the winter storms, and excess moisture is upon us, here are two main reasons to consider new siding:

A New Look and Exterior Remodel - Siding

Siding is not all about functionality. Consider it as an important remodel strategy and an opportunity to add a new color and texture that matches your style for your home. Usually, this is also a perfect time to upgrade your windows, so we have added information on current window options in this blog also.

Protection
Protection is the main purpose of siding and you need to consider the type of material used for its durability, longevity, and water resistance.

This Fall season is a good time to replace siding and upgrade your windows at the same time. Before the winter storms, and excess moisture is upon us, here are two main reasons to consider new siding:

> Siding is not all about functionality. Consider it as an important remodel strategy and an opportunity to add a new color and texture that matches your style for your home.

> Protection is the main purpose of siding and you need to consider the type of material used for its durability, longevity, and water resistance.

The six most popular types of siding offer a wide range of styles and choices.

Fiber Cement Siding
Fiber cement siding can be design to look like stucco, brick, or even wood, yet at a much lower cost.
It is one of the most popular choices due to the low-maintenance needed, the flame resistance, and the natural resistance to termites that prefer wood to cement in their diet.

Stucco Siding
Stucco A classic type of siding typically found in Mediterranean homes or ranch style Spanish-mission exteriors, stucco can be a long lasting siding solution that adds a distinctive look to the home.

Composed of sand, cement, lime, and water, stucco is applied on top of a waterproof barrier and metal screen as a base and to protect the walls under it.

Vinyl siding - Vinyl siding is usually a lower cost option and as a result is also a popular choice. Some people may be turned off by the plastic look of many vinyl siding options, however in spite of that it is the most popular siding option in the U.S. Manufacturers have developed strong styles and choices to appeal to many consumer tastes, and as a result of competition, prices are more affordable than other more expensive options.
Wood Siding - For a very traditional look and elegant siding option, wood can be very appealing, and as long as it is maintained, can last for many years. Various types of wood include Western red cedar and redwood, and styles include clapboard or bevel, shakes, and shingles. There is a wide range of choices by manufacturers.
Brick Siding - Modern brick is available in a wide range of sizes and textures. It can provide a distinctive look for a new or older home, and has been typically used with  Colonial, Tudor and English cottage exteriors.

Stone and Stone-Veneer siding -
Stone offers a natural rustic beauty to the siding of a home, and can add a different type of texture and visual appeal that other types of siding. Stone Veneer is the less expensive option yet can provide that "real" look as if real stone was used.

Windows
When you upgrade your windows at the same time that you replace siding, you save costs of labor and materials. New windows can increase energy savings and add appeal to the exterior of your home as a part of the new siding that is also being installed.

BUILDER MAGAZINE, the leading media brand for the residential construction industry named Milgard windows and Doors the “brand leader in overall vinyl quality”.  With over 50 years in the window industry, Milgard sets itself apart from other windows manufacturers by providing not only a lifetime warranty on their products but also a lifetime warranty on the labor involved to repair or replace any of its products.

Slipping and Siding in the Rainy Season

We are starting to enter the rainy season in Oregon and when it comes to siding, sometimes it needs to be replaced or repaired now and it can't wait for sunshine or you can't wait until Spring or Summer.

Impact and water damage are common issues during this season. We also have full siding replacement as needed for new construction or for full exterior remodeling. These projects are like NFL football. We can get it done any time, rain or shine. Just throw us a pass for a free estimate and we will surprise you with savings on materials up to 40%. Now that's a touchdown and a win-win for you in the siding contractor installation game.

Repairing Siding in the Rain

If we need to actually work in the rain we can use covers and tarps to protect the home siding while we are working. we remove the damaged siding and having matched the product can replace sections that are damaged.

Siding that Needs to be Replaced - Think Fiber Cement

When siding needs to be replaced, then we recommend considering fiber cement siding compared to wood or vinyl. With fiber cement the differences are dramatic. It is non-combustible, rot resistant, easily painted, resistant to termites, will not melt in high heat, is more durable and can sustain small impact, resistant to wind, rain, hail, snow and sun, is non-toxic to inhabitants, and has many choices of styles to meet every nuance of preferences.

Here are two photos of fiber cement siding - from the James Hardie Web Site - these are craftsman style. There are many other styles such as modern, ranch, traditional, prairie.

As siding contractors we always evaluate a home's siding even when there is only small damage to one area. We will provide you with a free estimate, and savings on materials.

We're not slipping but we are all about quality siding for homeowners in the Salem area.

Let's talk fiber cement and a style that will make you smile.

Have a great Thanksgiving.
